Hello.. a reminder and some reassurance for the journey today…

After a gorgeous day of birthday sparkle whilst away recently, the world pivots. We’re watching TV and my friend’s husband calls. A medical emergency is unfolding. We wait. Another call comes and we need to go home… now. We pack as calmly as we can and we head home in the dark of night. It’s a silent journey, though Friendship is in the back seat and my friend knows she’s not alone. We don’t know what’s next in the story.

In some ways, our time away was a sliver of what we’d hoped for because it was interrupted. And yet it was a moment of bliss we both needed right now. We’ll treasure the 24 hours by the sea that we created – the sparkling joyful moments inside of that time. We’ll need those stars when the sky is dark on days to come. The memories of that day are perpetual, even if life as we both knew it reached another dead end yesterday.

Life has dead ends. I realise that now. The paths we have mapped out. The expectations we have. The futures we imagine. The dreams we hold dear. Days, Weekends, Seasons, Lifetimes, People, Relationships.

When we reach a dead end, it’s time to focus on What Matters Most so that love, rather than fear, can lead us onto the new path unfolding in front of us. I invited Calm and she answered last night. With Calm for company we held space for each other and for the not knowing we needed to sit in and be with until the next piece of information arrived.

We can carry What Matters Most in our pocket and no matter how many bumps in the road, we can find some calm, some trust, some company to travel with. And small step by small step, day by day, hour by hour, we’ll journey into the small and the big uncertainties ahead of us….

…and we’ll keep planning and noticing the joyful moments and days because they are our dances together in the rain and the stars that shine in the darkness.

With love and sparkle for whatever uncertainties you’re facing in the weeks ahead…you are not alone 💖
